The size of the <emphasis>netinst</emphasis> installation images has increased significantly with the release of Debian <emphasis role="distribution">Bookworm</emphasis>. They now include packages containing proprietary firmware files to run specific hardware devices like network cards. In previous releases, these files had to be downloaded separately, or an alternative, but unofficial <emphasis>netinst</emphasis> image had to be used. This has been a major change in the Debian project's historic treatment towards its installers, but also a major gain for Debian's users.

GRUB is the default bootloader installed by Debian thanks to its technical superiority: it works with most filesystems and therefore doesn't require an update after each installation of a new kernel, since it reads its configuration during boot and finds the exact position of the new kernel. Version 1 of GRUB (now known as “Grub Legacy”) couldn't handle all combinations of LVM and software RAID; version 2, installed by default, is more complete. While there may still be situations where it is preferable to install LILO (another bootloader); the Debian installer does no longer support the installation of it and it has also been removed from the Debian archive.
GRUB é o carregador de boot padrão instalado no Debian devido à sua superioridade técnica: funciona com a maioria dos sistemas de arquivos e portanto não necessita de uma atualização após cada instalação de novo núcleo, já que ele lê sua configuração durante o boot e acha a posição exata do novo núcleo. A Versão 1 do GRUB (conhecida agora como "Grub Legacy") não lida com todas as combinações de LVM e RAID em software; a versão 2, instalada por padrão, é mais completo. Embora possam haver ainda situações onde é preferível instalar o LILO (outro carregador de boot); o instalador Debian não suporta mais a instalação dele.

If Windows is using BitLocker-encrypted partitions, the steps to resize them requires to use the BitLocker Management together with the Windows Disk Management tool. It is usually as easy as opening the latter and shrinking the Windows partition to the desired size. The freed space can then be used for the Debian installation.
